Andrew Johnson Impeachment Unused Ticket

Andrew Johnson Impeachment Unused Ticket

In May, 1868, the Senate came within a single vote of removing a president from office. Although Andrew Johnson's impeachment trial was ostensibly about other matters, it was essentially a circus orchestrated by his political enemies. Sound familiar? This unused ticket for Johnson's trial in the Senate chamber is a profound artifact. Dated May 9, a week before the final vote, the blue ticket to the gallery reads "U.S. Senate Impeachment of the President". EX with a slight patch of discoloration.
