Antique Boxing Photograph Collection (8)

Antique Boxing Photograph Collection (8)

An outstanding group of assorted vintage boxing photographs. Included is an 8 1/2 x 6 1/2" 1897 photo from the famed Fitzmmons vs. Corbett fight in New City Nevada. A few black marker lines at the corners and one stray mark in the lower right. A few light creases but overall the photo is in VG-EX+. Next up is a small 3 1/4" x 5 1/2" training photo of Jack Johnson sparing with Al Kaufman. (3) Is a well-framed photo showing a defining moment in sports history when Jack Johnson became the first African American Heavyweight Champion when he knocked out Jim Jeffries in Reno Nevada on July 4, 1910. Overall piece measures 13 1/2 x 12". The photo is slightly faded and has some toning and staining, there appears to have been a vertical tear, which was professionally restored, sometime ago. The slight defects do little to take away from this historic moment. (4) An 8 1/2 x 13" photo of George Dixon corner wear to the two right corners but overall the photo is in EX condition. (5) A Jim Jeffries early copy of a photo mounted on thick card stock. The image measures 4 1/2 x 5 1/2", and is 7" x 11" overall. There is some light staining on the right border but this will be covered up one matted and framed. Large 16" x 18" overall framed picture of Jim Jefferies. The image is from Redmond Pictures in Oakland, CA. The picture appears to be in outstanding collection with just wear to the corners and slight wear to the edges (this will be covered if one chooses to remount the photo). Also is a copy of a photograph of Battling Nelson with a facsimile note and signature. Daguerre Studio did the image; the caption reads, "Wishing you a Merry X-Mas and a Prosperous 1915 Battling Nelson". Overall condition is EX-MT. Lastly, is a glass negative from the Jess Willard vs. Jack Johnson fight on April 5, 1915 in Havana Cuba. Willard would go on to defeat Johnson and become the Heavyweight Champion when he knocked out the champ in the 26th round. Overall condition is EX-MT.
