August 19, 1965 Press Credentials

August 19, 1965 Press Credentials

From Atlanta, the entourage continued on to Houston where they were seen and heard by 24,000 during two performances. Mayhem ensued even before the Beatles took the stage. One can hear the uncontrollable, frenetic excitement from the soundboard tapes of the performances that have circulated in collector's circles for years. MC and disc jockey, Russ "The Weird Beard" Knight can be heard urging the crowd to calm down as hysteria broke out just at the sight of Ringo's "Beatles" bass drum being brought onstage. This pair of unused and unsigned press credentials was originally acquired from the son of the show's promoter Bruce Weaver. This same press conference pass is pictured on page 182 of Mark Lewisohn's "The Complete Beatles Chronicle" as the entire Sluchansky collection was made available to Lewisohn for his research. Although unused, they exhibit considerable wear. We've only seen two other sets of these credential over the years. 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" each.
