Babe Ruth 1945 Esquire All American Game Used Jacket

Babe Ruth 1945 Esquire All American Game Used Jacket

A truly historic piece of baseball memorabilia, this jacket was worn by Babe Ruth as manager of the 1945 Esquire Magazine All American Boy's Baseball Game, during which "The Babe" countered Connie Mack, manager of the "West." Ruth was dressed to the nines in this sporty red and white zipper front. Manufactured by Wilson with its correct tag in the collar, the jacket is in exceptional but worn condition. It retains the original flannel liner, but the most important part of this jacket lies sewn, all original, in the inside back right tail. There is a gorgeous red felt patch (measuring 3" x 1") with a glowing as if brought down from the mount, "Babe Ruth" in white embroidery. Just looking at it gives you chills. The back reads" "All American" in sewn-on lettering. The "I" was never sewn on and is 100% not missing which is interesting. Sponsored by the elegant "Esquire" magazine, its logo name in same white sewn-on felt script letters roars across the front with the sound of pounding presses. You'll love the dotted "i" in Esquire, a proverbial baseball oval. To the right is the first one of the finest patches we have ever seen on a sports jersey. This is the Esky Man, Esquire's longtime mascot, known for his dashing persona and elegance. The patch itself is 100% original, but it had been removed at some point and we have replaced it with the exact original and authentic patch and it is resewn to perfection. We took this patch from a uniform worn in that same series by Jack Thrush. That uniform, which itself has been restored with an exact replica patch, will be included in the lot with the jacket. The matching road gray pants and jersey leggings of exceptional quality are a perfect piece to add to a rip-roaring Ruth display. Also comes with rare program from the game. Originally, Honus Wagner was to be coach and Ruth replaced him. The jacket recently came from a man whose uncle lived in the same building as Babe Ruth after the legend had died. He used to visit the apartment of Mrs. Ruth, along with the uncle, and was gifted the jacket along with signed baseballs and other knickknacks. Sadly, the other items were lost through the years to sticky-fingered relatives who had lived with him. The jacket remained, however. The importance of any game-worn Babe Ruth piece cannot be minimized as they are national treasures. Ruth, along with Jackie Robinson, is one of two baseball players who literally transcends his sport. And that transcendence, beyond baseball, may not reach past Muhammad Ali. One can count Yankee jerseys on a couple of hands, and there are many Ruth bats out there. The jerseys are in the millions and the great specimens of Yankee jerseys sell in the millions. And there is but one of these jackets. And there always will be one George Herman "Babe" Ruth.
