Babe Ruth Presents Home Run Baseball Number 44 Photograph (PSA Type I)
Fun and somewhat perplexing content in this 1920 Type I photo of Babe Ruth presenting a baseball to actress Dorothy Jordan. What is certain is that it is from the Babe's first season in pinstripes, as indicated by the armband on the left sleeve in honor of Ray Chapman, the first time in Yankees history that a player was so honored. Pencil written caption on verso is somewhat difficult to decipher but it appears to relate to the Bambino's 44th home run (he hit 54 in the '20 campaign). Further research indicates that the prominent bandage on his right forearm is from a mosquito bite which caused blood poisoning, forcing Ruth to the bench for a period. We can say with certainty that it measures 6x8", is sepia-toned and in marvelous condition, with verso stamps from Brown Brothers in addition to the aforementioned writing. PSA encapsulated Type I Authentic.
