Bank Check Signed Three Times by James Dean

Bank Check Signed Three Times by James Dean

An important piece of Americana. James Dean, the erstwhile Hollywood would-be leading man, was a man who no one could pin down. Some considered him a Brando-like brooder, oozing seductive cool. Others consider him much more versatile and ambidextrous in his talents, playing much looser and youthful than Brando ever was. This check for forty-five dollars, presented in excellent condition from the Chase Bank of New York at Rockefeller Center, is signed three times by the doomed star in blue ink. Two signatures are presented on the front with an initialing on the left corner and a third signature on the back of the check. Signed only a year and eight months before the tragic car accident that ended his life and promising career, the check is stamped with a set of hole punches that notify that the check has been cleared. Though it's unlikely the check was for any of his work on “East of Eden” or “Giant”, it's still a subtle and powerful reminder of a star that could have been one of the greatest. Signatures grade 9/10 while check is EX.
