Base From The Last Game at Crosley Field (Stowe Collection)
Retrieved by Bernie Stowe, the legendary Reds equipment manger, after the final out, this historic base has been a part of his personal collection ever since. This fine example shows tremendous use. Unlike today, bases were used until they were almost completely worn out and not replaced every game. Although we are unsure which base this actually was, we do know that it was used in the last game ever played at Crosley Field on June 24, 1970 against the Giants. Inscribed in very faint writing, the base reads "Last Game at Crosley Field, Reds Won 5 to 4 on Home Runs by John Bench and Lee May off Juan Marichal." This historic base features all the signs of use you'd expect with signs of re-painting, cracks, scuffs and lots of wear-and-tear. The backside of the base is complete, solid, and features a metal tag labeled "Cincinnati Reds Inc. 265."
