"Battleship Gray" 1930 Wilson Stakes at Saratoga Silver Trophy Cup
This stunning, ornate silver trophy dates back to 1930 and was won by the progeny of the legendary Man O' War. From the inaugural running of this race at Saratoga, it is engraved,"Battleship Gray, Owned by Glen Riddle Farm, 1st Winner of the Wilson Stakes." Encircled by a beautiful floral pattern, the loving-cup style has two prominent handles and a lid that fully detaches. It stands 15" tall, 16" across from handle-to-handle, the top is 8" in diameter with the base measuring 6" across. The back side has another area for engraving, which is blank, and early period maker's marks from England are present. Though it was held from 1930 to 1958, Battleship Gray will forever be heralded as the Wilson's inaugural champion, and this award is a fitting tribute to that feat.
