Bill Russell Warm-Up Suit Circa 1957
Don't plan on wearing this shimmering satin ensemble unless you're about two inches short of seven feet-you'll just look foolish. But then, Russell made hundreds of N.B.A. opponents look foolish during his Hall of Fame career. He wore this suit at the beginning of that career, and the number "6" on the back of the jacket and at the hip of the pants still burn as brightly as they did while he drained 25-foot set shots during pre-game warm-ups. "Celtics" adorns chest in perfect green. Soft cotton lining inside is lightly stained with the legend's sweat and tagged "Horace Partridge [size] 44, Large." Pants tagged"Wilson [size] 36." Amazingly, this suit was purchased by a thirteen year old kid from a friend's father who worked clean-up at Boston Gardens. The kid had no idea who had owned it previously but liked the look of it and spent pennies to acquire what he would discover years later to be a piece of great importance. Letter of authenticity from that lucky soul is included.
