More than forty years after her death Billie Holiday remains the most famous of all jazz singers. "Lady Day" (a nickname given to her by Lester Young) had an innovative behind-the-beat phrasing made her quite influential. The emotional intensity that she put into the words she sang was memo-rable and sometimes almost scary; she often really did live the words she sang. This signed receipt for a pay advance from 1958 is clean and crisp, with a rust mark from a paper-clip that doesn't affect the NRMT signature.
