Billy Williams "Hitters Hands" Cast Bronze Statue
Lelands has handled many bronze artworks over the years, but the offered piece, titled "Hitter's Hands," is certainly the most unusual to date. Created by Denver artist Raelee Frazier in 1993, the limited-edition piece features a life-size bronze casting of Cubs' Hall of Famer Billy Williams' hands gripping a full size Billy Williams H&B commemorative bat. The bat rests in an upright position on a wooden base fashioned in the form of a home plate, while the hands float freely. Engraved on the end of one of the hands is the limitation number, "5/36," along with the following text: "Hitters Hands/(c)/1993/Billy Williams." Engraved on the end of the other hand and the wooden base are laser-produced facsimile signatures of Billy Williams. Williams has signed the bat in black Sharpie (grading 9/10) on the barrel. Billy Williams is one of twenty baseball players featured in the "Hitter's Hands" art series, which also includes Ted Williams, Ernie Banks, Duke Snider, and Pee Wee Reese. This is the first example from the "Hitter's Hands" series we have ever offered and we cannot recall the last time we have seen another at auction. A unique Billy Williams piece and one that makes for a most entertaining conversation piece. Excellent to Mint condition. The base measures 12x12x2 inches. Height (including the base): 36.75". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
