Bobby Hull's 1965-1966 Game Used 50th Goal Stick
After matching Maurice Richard and Bernie Geoffrion with 50 goals in 1961-62, Bobby Hull didn’t really come close to breaking the 50-goal barrier the next three seasons, scoring 31, 43 and 39 goals respectively. It was during the 1965-66 season that the powerful Chicago forward chased and broke the long-standing benchmark. This is the actual stick the Golden Jet used to bang home 50 goals for the second time. The date was Wednesday, March 2, 1966 and the place was Chicago Stadium. Hull fired a bullet from the high slot that Detroit goaltender Hank Bassen wasn’t able to get a pad or glove in front of. The Black Hawks went on to beat the Red Wings 5-4 and Bobby went on to break the record ten nights later against the Rangers. The Northland Pro stick used to fire the puck past Bassen has “B. HULL” stamped on the front of the shaft with a faded “9” added in black marker. The side of the shaft features the Gunzo’s Sports Center stamp and “50 - 1966” in ballpoint. Black “bulldog” tape is on the notched handle and the slightly curved blade. Nice game use with black stick/slash marks towards the bottom of the shaft. It’s in outstanding excellent condition with a very slight age crack near the tip of the blade. From the personal collection of Bobby Hull with his signed Letter of Authenticity.
