Bobby Thomson Handwritten Letter Detailing "Shot Heard 'Round the World"

Bobby Thomson Handwritten Letter Detailing "Shot Heard 'Round the World"

The Shot Heard 'Round the World is one of the most important and iconic home runs in baseball history. On October 3rd, 1951, Bobby Thomson hit a walk-off three run homer off Ralph Branca in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the New York Giants the pennant, with Russ Hodges screaming his infamous line, "The Giants Win the Pennant!" This letter is handwritten by Bobby Thomson himself and references his historic slam. Made out to "Kelly," Thomson writes "First of all, losing 4 to 1, last half of the ninth inning, Newcombe looking very strong in the eighth, I didn't think I would get a chance to get a bat. When my time came to bat I told myself to get up there and give yourself a chance to hit. This means not getting over anxious. Keep my weight back, wait for the ball. I was telling myself to wait and watch - wait and watch - watch the ball of course. I also became very determined along with my deep concentration. When the pitch came I had the luck and good fortune to hit the ball out of the park. With my Best Wishes, Bobby Thomson."
