Branch Rickey Original Artwork

Branch Rickey Original Artwork

Cartoon artwork by noted cartoonist Hy Rosen. Depicts Branch Rickey, listed as an adviser to the Pittsburgh Pirates, but as usual, running the whole show. "The Mahatma" is wearing a Pirate hat (the sea-going variety), with his trademark cigar, and a compass, there's a pirate ship in the background and jewels at Rickey's feet. The Hall of Famer is dancing a jig because his Pirates are improving and in the first division. After being forced out of Brooklyn by Walter O"Malley, Rickey went to Pittsburgh and again worked his magic. Rickey obtained Roberto Clemente and Elroy Face from the Brooklyn farm system and assembled a team that would win, after he had left the organization, the World Series over the New York Yankees in 1960.(11.25x14.5").
