Bruce Lee’s Green Hornet Scripts (11)

Bruce Lee’s Green Hornet Scripts (11)

In 1965, 24- year old Bruce Lee was paid a $1,500 retainer to play the role of “Kato” in “The Green Hornet,” the 1966-67 TV series that won him international acclaim. He was paid $400 an episode. Eleven of those series scripts are included in this rare piece of historical television. Despite lasting only one season, The Green Hornet is said to have captured a cult following because of the popularity of martial arts legend Lee. Coming on the heels of the TV success of Batman, the show, nonetheless, didn’t have the long-time TV tenure of the Caped Crusader, perhaps because Batman fought against unusual criminals (the Riddler, for example), whereas The Green Hornet took aim at more “normal criminal-types.” But sit back and get your hands on these original Bruce Lee typewritten scripts. Featuring page after page of all the dialogue and action scenes that made the series a short-lived but soon-to-become TV classic. The 8 1/2 x 11” paper scripts are hole punched and held together with heavier covers and fastened with brass brads. As you scan and read the episodes, you can just imagine all the excitement that occured during the shooting. One script, titled “Eat, Drink, and Be Dead,” refers to an illegal bootleg liquor ring, and is complete with racketeers, a kidnapping and a bomb-dropping helicopter (Yikes!). In another script (“The Hornet and the Firefly”), the Green Hornet battles a vicious arsonist who seeks to destroy the city’s life-line. (Oh, oh) Other scripts include “Trouble for Prince Charming,” “Freeway to Death,” “The Secret of the Sally Bell,” “Give ‘Em Enough Rope,” “Programmed for Death,” “Hornet Save Thyself,” “May the Best Man Lose,” and a pair of snappy two parters--”Beautiful Dreamer,” and “Corpse of the Year, “ which features an imposter Black Beauty. True Bruce Lee fans know that his short life was filled with plenty of action...and unfortunately, sadness. This package from the personal collection of the legendary Lee will be a showstopper that will help keep the words of that legend going. From the auction of Bruce Lee’s estate several years back as consigned by his family.
