Bruce Springsteen Signed 1963 Babe Ruth League All-Star Tournament Program w/"Glory Days" Inscription (PSA)

The Boss loves baseball. The displayed offering, from Page 6 of the 1963 (Freehold Babe Ruth League) Tournament of All Stars program, features Bruce Springsteen's signature and his "Glory Days" inscription adjacent to his name on the roster of the Giants, his Intermediate Babe Ruth League team. The 14-year-old Springsteen, an outfielder, was not an All-Star, but the program listed all the players in the league. The tournament was held at Nescafe Field, located only a short walk from Springsteen's boyhood home at that time. The program cost only 10 cents. On a radio broadcast during the height of the Covid pandemic, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Springsteen said, "I miss baseball. When this thing (pandemic) is over, I want to take Patty (Scalia, his wife) to a baseball game." While growing up in Freehold, New Jersey, Springsteen played both Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball. In fact, he references baseball in at least two of his songs. In "Blinded by the Light", Bruce's lyrics mention "Indians in the summer." That reference is to his playing baseball in the summer for the Indians, his Little League team. In "Glory Days," Springsteen sings, "I had a friend was a big baseball player/Back in high school/He could throw that speedball by you/Make you look like a fool boy." Springsteen is also listed, on Page 13 in a section of the program called merely "Babe Ruth League," as a player for the Braves. The Giants and Braves teams were on different levels, with the Braves team being in a division reserved for older and/or more experienced Babe Ruth League players than was the Intermediate Giants. Apparently, Bruce played for both the Giants and the Braves, perhaps at different times of the season. Using blue ink from a ballpoint pen, Springsteen has signed and inscribed the program, in big and bold script, as "Glory Days Bruce Springsteen." The program exhibits some very slight foxing but is in overall excellent condition, and it comes with a PSA LOA. The program, including various photos and advertisements, provides a glimpse back in time to almost half a century ago, to the Freehold, New Jersey milieu that Springsteen would call "My Hometown."
