California Gold Rush Sermon & Gold nuggets on Quartz
Jouney back to 1849 when thousands headed out to California to stake their claim and get rich quick. First is a pamplet containing a sermon called, "The Gold of California" by E.L. Cleaveland published in 1849 warning parishoners of the moral dangers of seeking gold. The pamplet measures approximately 5 1/2" X 9". In it, the minister warns people that, "The filth and scum of society [have] gathered and poured in there to seethe and ferment into one putrid mass of unmitigated depravity." The pamplet's cover and all pages are in tact although some pages show some discoloration due to aging. Overall EX+. Also included are two gold nuggets on quartz found during the gold rush in Eldorado County, California. These two beautiful pieces of gold weigh approximately 33.4 grams and 8.35 grams repsectively. They are in beautiful condition and still attached to the original quartz.
