Casey Stengel Signed Original Photograph (PSA GEM MT 10)
Presented is a superb, signed original color photo of Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel, from his time as the skipper of the New York Mets. Charles Dillon "Casey" Stengel was known as "The Ol' Perfessor" when the Hall of Fame skipper managed the New York Yankees and the Mets, but as Casey used to explain, "I wasn't born seventy years old." As a player, he was an outfielder with the Brooklyn Dodgers/Superbas/Robins (1912-17), Pittsburgh Pirates (1918-19), Philadelphia Phillies (1920-21), New York Giants (1921-23), and Boston Braves (1924-25). Charles Dillon was called "Casey" because he was originally from Kansas City (K.C.), Missouri. He was a fine fielder with good speed, and he batted .284 lifetime. While playing for the New York Giants in the 1923 World Series, Stengel had game winning home runs in the two games that the Giants won as John McGraw's team lost the Series in six games to the Yankees. Stengel was mentored by manager McGraw, and Casey used a great deal of strategy that he learned from McGraw when Stengel became a manager. himself. Casey managed Brooklyn and the Boston Braves, and then he became a living legend while managing the Yankees, winning a still Major League five World Series in a row, from 1949-53, and seven in all with the Bronx Bombers, plus two more World's Championships as a player with the Giants. Stengel was the inaugural Mets manager (1962-65), and his colorful personality helped to make the expansion squad a fan favorite, even though the team was a cellar dweller in all four years with Casey at the helm. The offered signed photo is 8x10", encapsulated to 9.75x13.25" and PSA graded GEM MINT 10. Casey's neat, flowing signature is in black ink. Overall, the signed Stengel photo is a vivid, charming remembrance of a baseball immortal.
