Chief Bender Single Signed Baseball

Chief Bender Single Signed Baseball

One of the toughest singel signed baseballs of all. This gem is from the esteemed Harry Evans Collection, the ultimate baseball man who collected "stuff" in the 1930's-50's when collecting memorabilia was as cuckoo as clocks. Considered the greatest “money pitcher” in the game by baseball’s premier judge of talent, Connie Mack, who also labeled him one of the top half dozen hurlers in the history of the sport. Despite enormous racial prejudice, Bender thrived for over two decades, no season was more magical though than that of 1910. Early, in what would be his most successful campaign as a pro, on the night of May 12th, he would pitch the sole no-hitter of his career against the Naps, missing a perfect game by one walk. We proudly offer this single signed Official American League baseball, one of only a rare few extant from the Hall of Fame’s only American Indian member. Autographed boldly in blue fountain pen “’Chief’ Bender” on the side panel and further inscribed in black ink, “5-12-10, No Hit No Run, Athletics-4 Cleveland-0” on the sweet spot with additional “Philadelphia Athletics” on the opposite side panel. Bender’s bold and perfectly formed signature grades an “8” out of possible “10” and is surrounded by dark and well defined stampings. The ball itself exhibits a light patina that only adds to the overall appearance of this rare specimen. From the Charlie Sheen Collection.
