Christy Mathewson at the Plate Original Glass Negative
Original glass negative capturing Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson as a member of the New York Giants. Mathewson is pictured at the plate during batting practice prior to a game at the Polo Grounds. The notation "Mathewson Giants at Plate" is written along the top border. Although no date is listed, the uniform style shown here was worn by the Giants only in 1909. The glass negative (7x5") displays a few small areas of emulsion loss, mainly along the top border.
