Christy Mathewson Warms Up in Front of the Bull Durham Sign Original Glass Plate Negative
Original glass negative capturing Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson as a member of the New York Giants. The spectacular image captures Mathewson warming up on the sideline at the Polo Grounds, with both the famed Bull Durham Tobacco and Fatima Cigarettes signs clearly visible in the background. Although no date is listed, the uniform style shown here was worn by the Giants from 1913 to 1916. The glass negative (7x5") displays areas of emulsion loss along the base that do not affect the central image. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
