Circa 1888 Duke and Allen & Ginter Tobacco Premium Album Collection (6)
Collection of six rare circa 1888 tobacco-premium albums, issued by W. Duke, Sons & Co and Allen & Ginter tobacco. In the 1880s, in addition to insert cards, tobacco companies also offered special albums available only by mail in exchange for coupons which were packed with tobacco, one coupon per pack. Each premium album features images of all of the subjects in the corresponding set, along with additional background artwork. These souvenir albums were the top prizes offered by the tobacco companies, and have long been highly prized by collectors. These albums feature a range of topics, including birds, fish, political interests, etc. The non-sport albums are just as scarce as the popular baseball albums, yet far more reasonable in price. Includes: 1) A27 Governors, Coats of Arms, Etc. of the States and Territories - (10.25x6.75"). Very Good with some binding wear. 2) A4 Birds of the Tropics - (6x9"). Cover staining but with original strings. GD/VG. 3) A10 General Government And State Capitol Buildings - (9.5x6"). Small front cover paper loss, otherwise EX. 4) A21 The Napoleon Album - (9.5x6"). With original string, light front cover pencil marks, VG overall. 5) A13 Sing Birds of the World - (9x6"). With original string, Light cover tear, otherwise EX. 6) A6 50 Decorations of the Principal Orders of Knighthood and Chivalry - (9.5x6"). Original string, EX overall.
