Circa 1890s Buffalo Bill Original "Stories of the Far West" Poster

Circa 1890s Buffalo Bill Original "Stories of the Far West" Poster

Intriguing poster, written primarily in Dutch, for Original Buffalo Bill Stories of the Wild West and for Nick Carter Detective Stories. William "Buffalo Bill" Cody was an American Pony Express rider, Union soldier in the Civil War, adventurist, and impressario in the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. He was a walking contradiction: A supporter of Native American rights who was known as an Indian fighter; famed as a hunter of buffalo and became a conservationist. His "Buffalo Bill Wild West" (Cody never termed it a show), traveled much of the United States and parts of the World and featured simulated fights between "Cowboys and Indians." He also wrote adventure books with Wild West themes that were quite popular. This poster is approximately 35x52" and features twelve individual 8x11" advertisements for "The Buffalo Bill Original Stories of the Far West," as well as four approx. 9.5x11" advertisements for Nick Carter Detective Stories." The original poster is placed upon a more modern canvas backing. Poster has a few small pieces missing, but is in overall good condition.
