Circa 1896 Mayo's Cut Plug Game Board

Circa 1896 Mayo's Cut Plug Game Board

Rare find. For the Mayo's Cut Plug baseball card set. (8x15.75"). Far rarer than the cards, only a handful of these game boards are known. Charming, quaint baseball game, used in combination with Mayo's die-cut baseball cards, which were to be inserted into the slots on the playing board. The cards are generic, with 14 cards for each of two teams, representing the "Boston Nine" and the "New York Nine." Game board portrays a baseball field and contains catching advertising for Mayo's Cut Plugs. Issued by Mayo's Cut Plug Tobacco, the verso reads, "One player packed in every 2-oz. Package of Mayo's Cut Plug." Verso adds, "The game is played exactly as National game of baseball." Excellent condition.
