Circa 1897 Baltimore Base Ball Club Mounted Team Photograph by Betz Studios
Stunning circa 1897 photo captures the 3-time Champions Baltimore Base Ball team. Black and white image is 8x5.25" visible, ornately displayed in a heavy wood frame to 15x30". A total of 17 players and a plainclothed manager are in the posed team shot, which is inscribed in white at the top with "Baltimore Base Ball Club - Champions, 1894-95-96." In the bottom left corner, also in white, is Betz Studios. Individuals pictured are identified on the back of the mount, which is covered by the wood backing of the frame. Already known as the Orioles at that early date, Baltimore captured the National League pennant in each of the three seasons listed, with Hall of Famers Joe Kelly, Hughie Jennings, Willie Keeler, John McGraw, and Wilbert Robertson in the starting lineup in 1894. Although PSA will not grade this photo because it is mounted (they will not grade any mounted photos), we believe, because of the clarity and crispness of the image that it is from the original negative and it is vintage dating back to the first decade of the 20th century. Ornate frame makes for a wonderful display, EX condition overall.
