Circa 1902 Happy Hooligan Theater Poster

Circa 1902 Happy Hooligan Theater Poster

Spectacular full color comic strip lithograph sports graphics worthy of Outcault, McKay and of course the resident Frederick Burr Opper. Rare and impressive theater poster is based on the Fred Opper strip which was a contemporary of the early original newspaper strips led by Outcault's Yellow Kid (the first) that came in the door and defined "yellow journalism". Scamps such Buster Brown, Little Nemo and the Katzenjammers busted down the door to change satire in America and the world forever. Extremely rare poster sports marvelous color and pictures a farm scene worthy of the elder McDonald with a bevy of singing cats, pigs, dogs, and ducks which cannot wake the bummish hooligan complete with an old tin can for a hat. Mounted on linen to overall 21.5x30" with folds and some very slight paper loss.
