Circa 1910 Eddie Cicotte Original Glass Plate Negative

Circa 1910 Eddie Cicotte Original Glass Plate Negative

Original glass plate negative of pitcher Eddie Cicotte as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Cicotte is pictured warming up in front of the dugout prior to a game as an overflow crowd looks on. The notation "Cicotte Bos A" is written along the base of the negative. Cicotte was a member of the Red Sox from 1908 until 1912, when he was traded to the Chicago White Sox. It was with the White Sox that he enjoyed his greatest success on the mound, only to lose both his career and reputation seven years later as one of the main conspirators in the infamous "Black Sox Scandal." This is a scarce early image of Cicotte dating from the start of his tragic Major League career. The negative (5x4") remains in Excellent condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
