Circa 1912 Harry Hooper Boston Red Sox Game Worn Hat (Hooper Letter)
This stunning pinstriped cap is the perfect representation of the man who prowled the World Champion Boston Red Sox outfield with an immortal baseball trio along with Duffy Lewis and Tris Speaker. This is the prototype for how you would like a game used cap to look, especially one this early. It shows fantastic use and is tagged inside by Horace Partidge the accomplished New England sporting goods manufacturer who made uniforms for the Boston Red Sox and Braves. Their material is among some of the finest game worn baseball pieces ever, as evidenced by the quality of this one. The original leather band sports "Red Sox" right on it and this manufacturer is in the pantheon of sports equipment created through pure "Yankee" (pardon the use of that term) ingenuity. In all our years of selling the finest memorabilia in the hobby, this is one of the earliest game worn caps we have encountered, let alone one used by a pivotal Hall of Famer. Donated to an institution by Harry Hooper along with a pair of his socks and game worn spikes, the pieces were de-accessioned well over a decade ago. Comes with the original index card with handwritten note signed by Hooper in which he states that this is a hat that he wore while playing for the Boston Red Sox. Provenance and quality wise, it doesn't get any better than this. Note: The near exact same cap is in the collection of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, donated by Hooper.
