Circa 1914 Bus Token Dispenser

Circa 1914 Bus Token Dispenser

Magnificent chrome mechanical device was used on the front of city buses for passengers to throw their nickels or tokens into. This was last used decades ago as it appears to be set to take nickels and nickel-sized tokens. Front shows counters to display numbers for coins, tokens and transfer tickets. This is from Bus #7, perfect to go to Yankee Stadium to see Mickey Mantle (#7) play. Sides are clear plastic (adapted later) from the original glass. Bottom side sports nifty metal plate with the name of the manufacturer, “Johnson Fare Box Co.” and the last patent year 1914. We are not sure if it is working or not. Overall very good condition and 21" tall.
