Circa 1924 Hugh Critz Cincinnati Reds Game Worn Uniform
Circa 1924 Hugh Critz game worn uniform is one of the very earliest Cincinnati Reds uniforms we have handled. In fabulous condition, the gray road jersey and pants have pinstripes, and the set comes with red and white stirrup socks as well. Uniform is all original but for the sleeves, which were custom shortened for Critz - a strong case can be made that this is also original since it was done by Critz or the team. Goldsmith tag is in the collar and Critz is chain-stitched in red inside front tail; also inside front tail is sewn in tag with CRITZ 38 written on, indicating size 38. Reds C logo is on the left breast in red-on-black, with "REDS" in red individual letters inside the C. No numbers are present as they were not yet in use on baseball jerseys. Pants have button fly with Critz chain stitched inside, slight red bleeding is evident at the knee area from socks. Stirrup socks are red with a bold white stripe and colors remain sharp, though the loop portion that goes inside the shoes show extensive use and both are somewhat shredded. Though we can't date this set conclusively, Critz did break in with the Reds in 1924, making this from one of his earliest seasons and perhaps his rookie year. Critz batted an impressive .322 in 102 games that season, the highest average of his 13 seasons. Originally from the Critz family.
