Circa 1927 Ben Paschal New York Yankees Game Worn Jersey
Vintage circa 1927-28 road gray New York Yankees jersey worn by outfielder Ben Paschal. Blue "YANKEES" is stitched across the chest of the button-front top, dating this most likely from the 1927-28 period. As with the Pat Collins jersey from the same era (elsewhere in this auction), this specimen was eventually sent to a town team which made changes for their purposes. Included restoration letter notes that they have restored the "YANKEES" name across the chest and there may be evidence of the back once having a number, though it does not match the 25 that Paschal wore starting in 1929 (the first year of numbers on jerseys), thus narrowing the timeframe to '27-28 (also the only period in which the franchise used its nickname on its road jerseys). Last name Paschal is still stitched in the collar, presumably in red which has since faded to pink. Spalding tag is also in collar, jersey shows nice use and has 7 of the 8 original buttons - only the top button was replaced - and back of the jersey is vintage, displaying deliberate holes used to tie the jersey to a belt or use a string to go thru and tie around the waist. Size 44 is also originally sewn in thread that is faded to pink at the bottom of the front. Though he wasn't a starter, Paschal batted .317 in 50 games off the bench, a testament to the team's miraculous depth. The restoration and conservation is phenomenal, and an opportunity to own a jersey game worn during the era of New York's 1927 "Murderers' Row" is exceedingly rare and not to be missed.
