Circa 1927 New York Yankee Type I Photographs (52)
Incredible collection of "lost" Type I photographs from the early days of baseball. Most are by Yankees official photographer NY-based photographer Harry Thorne. There are also some by Underwood & Underwood which show characteristics of Charles Conlon who supplied images to Underwood & Underwood. A total of 32 of the 52 were later mounted on board. Each image is stamped on verso with either one or a combination of Thorne, American League Service Bureau, Apex, and Underwood. Many are 1927 poses from the greatest team ever and continue into the early 1930s: Michael Gazella, John Grabowski, George Pipgras (2), Paschal, Herbert Pennock (2), Gordon Rhodes (2),Henry Johnson, Leo Durocher, John J. Murphy, Elias Funk, Edwin Wells (2), Joseph Sewell, Lynford H. Lary, William J. Karlon, Ben Chapman, Henry W. Johnson, Robert Shawkey (2), Robert W. Meusel, Roy R. Sherid, Rufus Meadows, Joseph Marty, T. Patrick Collins, Ralph Perkins, James D. Weaver, James H. Reese, Karl Drews, Jesse Hill, Herbert Bryant, Earle Combs, Lee Craig, Nick/Wilcy Moore, Floyd Van Pelt (2), Joe Beggs, James Deshong, Allen “Dusty” Cooke, Arndt Jorgens (3), Thomas F Paddon, Robert Gibson, Otto H. Saltzgaver, "Fouts," "Eisemann," and one unmarked. All are approximately 8x10". The greatest find of Type I Yankee photos from 1927 and the Murderers' Row era in years. Some of the players shown have not been seen in a Yankee uniform. Overall EX, some with corner creases and slight chipping.
