Circa 1929 Chick Hafey St. Louis Cardinals Game Used Jersey
With an impressive talent for hitting and a rifle arm in the field, Hall-of-Famer Chick Hafey was one of the St. Louis Cardinals' strongest all-around players from 1924-1931. At bat, Hafey brought home 833 RBIs in his career, with an outstanding .317 batting average and 164 Home Runs. If that weren't enough, Chick was actually the first player to get a hit in the MLB's original All Star Game. During the 1927 season, he dominated the Slugging percentage with a monster .590, and in '31 his batting average topped the National Leagues at .349. Out in the field he was equally talented, with a magnetic glove and a rocket throw that could beat some of the fastest runners back to the bag. Though he spent his final years as a pro ball player with the Reds, Hafey was probably best known as a Cardinal. This jersey, Hafey's own game-used Cardinals jersey, is from his 1929 season, just three seasons before his trade. While torn up the left side, with a hole in front, some thread coming out of the collar, and a few tiny moth holes worn throughout, this button-neck shirt is in great shape considering its age, and features wonderful game use. The Cardinals logo is embroidered on its front, with no numbers on the reverse. On the bottom-left tail, Hafey's name was sewn in black thread, and the left sleeve has the letters StM sewn on. A red and black manufacturer's tag on the inside of the neck reads "SAINZ SUNSHINE LINE" and is surrounded by a circle reading "SAINZ CO. ST. LOUIS MO ATHLETIC GOODS OF QUALITY." Altogether, this jersey stands as an incredible relic of early twentieth-century baseball, and is a celebration of a true Cardinals great that is worth every penny.
