Circa 1940s Larry Doby Photograph (PSA Type I)

Circa 1940s Larry Doby Photograph (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph capturing Larry Doby as a member of the Cleveland Indians, circa late 1940s. Doby is pictured in mid-swing as he takes a practice cut on the sideline prior to a game. Doby followed quickly in the footsteps of Jackie Robinson and became the first African American player in American League history when he made his Major League debut with the Cleveland Indians on July 5, 1947. Like Robinson, he made an immediate contribution to the club and the following season the Indians captured their first World Championship since 1920. The photo (8x10") displays a few light surface wrinkles and is in apparent Very Good to Excellent condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 13x15.25". Full LOA from PSA certifying the photos as Type I Authentic. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
