Circa 1946 Billy Herman Game Used Bat (PSA GU 8)
Rare circa 1946 game used bat from Hall of Famer Billy Herman is an impressive artifact. Louisville Slugger model K55 measures 35.0 inches and weighs 32.7 ounces, is uncracked and displays tremendous use with ball marks and seam impressions on the left and back barrel. Labeling period dates from 1946-48, the very end of the infielder's 15-year MLB career (he retired after the 1947 season). He was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in that '47 season and immediately became player-manager, but the exchange included Bob Elliot - who went on to win that year's NL MVP honors with the Boston Braves, and one year later was instrumental in leading the Boston Red Sox to a World Series title. Herman remained in the coaching ranks, winning a championship as an assistant with the famed 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. While posting an impressive .304 career batting average, Herman was best known for his defensive prowess as one of the top fielding second basemen of his era, and he was inducted into the halls of Cooperstown by the Veteran's committee in 1975. Comes with PSA LOA graded GU 8.
