Circa 1949 New York Rens/Harlem Globetrotters Warmup Jacket
This red, white and blue wool pullover with zipper neck is in terrific shape with no visible holes. There is Size 46 tagging on the tail, although the manufacturer's tag is missing, which was often done as players found the tags to be irritating. It was gifted from the one and only impresario Abe Saperstein to Harlem Globetrotters player Inman Jackson, who, in turn, gave it to Robert "Show Boat" Hall, his Globetrotters teammate. According to Hall's letter of authenticity Inman wore the jacket as a member of the New York Rens, though we cannot find any record of this style being worn by the Rens so that remains inconclusive. However, the Globetrotters did use this style in the early years, so it is Globetrotters at the very least. The Rens were the first all-black fully professional African-American owned basketball team. Nothing game used from the team is known to exist. The zipper is not working but otherwise the jacket is in Excellent condition.
