Circa 1960s Marques Haynes Harlem Magicians Uniform & Team Signed Program
The main star attraction of the barnstorming team known as the Fabulous Harlem Magicians was hoops showman Marques Haynes. During the 1960s, he donned this orange and white uniform while showing off his many talents over five extraordinary decades. This lot comes directly from the personal private collection of Haynes, who made his debut with the Harlem Globetrotters in the 1940s, then returned to finish out his career with the Trotters in the 1980s. There's a frayed MacGregor tag on the outer front tail, with part of the size missing. "MAGICIANS" in white letters is sewn across the front, as is the number "5" on the back. The shorts - also orange - feature black and white stripes down the sides, button-down fly and white belt with working buckle. The 20-page program comes from the 1950s and the cover is adorned with about a dozen autographs in pencil. The consummate showman and basketball entrepreneur, Haynes played in over 12,000 games, scored more than 25,000 points and performed in 103 countries.
