Circa 1960s Walt Alston Brooklyn Dodgers Team Issued 1948 Replacement Ring

Note: Displayed is a striking circa 1960s Walt Alston Brooklyn Dodgers team issued replacement ring commemorating Alston's 1948 managerial season with the Dodgers Class AAA affiliate St. Paul (Minnesota) Saints.

Alston, a Hall of Fame manager, didn't have much of a Major League playing career. He had just one at bat, for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1936, and after hitting a long fly ball that was just foul of a home run, Alston struck out. He had a much better run as a Major League manager. He managed the Dodgers for 23 seasons: 1954-57 in Brooklyn, and 1958-76 in Los Angeles. He had a regular season record of 2,040-1,613, and he took the Dodgers to seven pennants and four World Championships, including the only World Series ever won by the Brooklyn Dodgers - in 1955.

In 1948, Alston was managing the St. Paul (Minnesota) Saints, a Dodgers' Class AAA affiliate. The team had a record of 86-68, finishing third in the American Association. One of Alston's players at St. Paul was Hall of Fame catcher Roy Campanella. The face of the ring reads, "Brooklyn Baseball Club," and outside of the face is engraved "Brooklyn Dodgers." Engraved on the inside of the ring is Alston's name, along with a "1948" year that is very faint. The diamond on the size 10.5 ring tests real. The ring weighs 26 grams. The face around the diamond is "Dodger Blue," and the ring is in excellent condition, and it recalls those halcyon days at Ebbets Field when Alston managed the likes of Hall of Famers such as Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, and Gil Hodges. This ring comes from the collection of Sal LaRocca, well-known for his extensive Brooklyn Dodger memorabilia. The offered ring is a beautiful, nostalgic, vintage collectible.
