Circa 1961 New York Mets Prototype Jersey
Leading up to the New York Mets' inaugural season of 1962, Rawlings (which produced the home jerseys) and Wilson (which produced the road jerseys) each submitted various uniform prototypes for the franchise to consider. On offer here is one of the road prototypes which Wilson submitted to the Metropolitans for their consideration.Pristine road gray flannel jersey, which incorporates hints of blue embedded into the fabric, displays a gorgeous intertwined "NY" over the left chest in soft, midnight navy blue felt, outlined in white chain-link. Number "11" resides on the verso, all sewn-on in the same midnight navy blue felt. The collar, button path, and sleeve cuffs are adorned with midnight navy blue piping and the seven-button front is all original. There is a early 1960s "Wilson 42" tag in the tail.A rare exemplar in immaculate condition, it is both a superb display piece and a historically significant artifact, which combines design elements from both the New York Giants and New York Yankees.
