Circa 1963 Guy Rodgers San Francisco Warriors Game Worn Shorts - Rare Style
"Without question, Guy Rodgers was the best passer I ever played with or against," said basketball commentator Jon McGlocklin, a former teammate of Rodgers on the Milwaukee Bucks. Presented is a circa 1963 Guy Rodgers San Francisco Warriors pair of game worn shorts - in a rare style. Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Rodgers was a Philadelphia guy: He went to Northeast High School in Philly, then went to the City of Brotherly Love's Temple University, where as a point guard he was a terrific star and is still the third highest scorer in Temple basketball history. The 6'0" Rodgers then was a territorial pick of the Philadelphia Warriors, and he played for them from 1958-59 through 1961-62. With the Philadelphia Warriors, Rodgers teamed with Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain, also a Philly native. The Philadelphia franchise moved to San Francisco for the 1962-63 season, and Rodgers played in San Francisco from 1962-63 through 1965-66. He also played for the Chicago Bulls (1966-67 and 1967-68), the Cincinnati Royals (1967-68), and the Milwaukee Bucks (1968-70). Very much a team player, Rodgers led the NBA twice in assists and finished second in assists six times. He was a 4-time All-Star. The pants have a "5" tag on the waist. There is also a Wilson manufacturer's tag in the waist, and under the Wilson tag is a size "34" tag. The pants are gold, with blue and white trim. The trunks have an upward slopping high cut along the thighs, unusual at that time. Also unusual is a San Francisco Giants-like logo, an interlocking "SF" on the left front, in blue with white trim. The shorts show fine game use. There are some loose threads and some very small, minor stains. Also evident is some slight color fading. Overall, for game worn shorts approx. a half-century old, the trunks are in very good condition.
