Circa 1967-68 Lew Alcindor UCLA Original Photograph (PSA Type I)
Before Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 20-year Hall of Fame professional career, he was a dominant force at UCLA as part of John Wooden's legendary Bruins program. This superb 8x10" "posed action" shot displays the man who was then known as Lew Alcindor in full extension, about to release a jump shot in front of a section of closed bleachers. Typed caption embedded on back reads, "Lew Alcindor, 1967-68 UCLA center, 7:1 1/2 230 pounds, 20 yrs old, one-year letterman, junior, hometown New York City. Alcindor last season was named on every All-American Team and the "Player of the Year." Indeed, so impressive was the future Kareem straight out of Harlem's Power Memorial High School that - unable to play with UCLA's varsity as a freshman due to school rules - he led the freshmen team to a victory over the varsity squad in his first year. He proceeded to lead the Bruins to three National Championships in his remaining years of eligibility. Great early look at a man whose career - and life - accomplishments thoroughly surpassed his impressive physical stature. Encapsulated PSA Type I.
