Circa 1970s Thurman Munson Cleats

Circa 1970s Thurman Munson Cleats

<p>"In all the years I've played this game, he's the finest competitor I've ever seen.... the best example of a team player," said Lou Pinella about Thurman Munson, Pinella's Yankee teammate. Munson was the first New York Yankee to be named team captain since Lou Gehrig in the 1930s. He had his best season in 1976, when he was the American League MVP. He hit .302, with 17 homers and 105 RBIs. Munson was an all-around catcher who won three Golden Gloves. In the 1970s, he led the AL in assists by a catcher 3-times, DPs by a catcher 2-times, and percentage caught-stealing 3-times. Playing his entire major league career with the Yankees, he was a key part of two Yankee World Series champions. Munson died in a plane accident on August 2, 1979, when his plane crashed as he was practicing take-offs and landings. The Thurman Munson Pro Model Cleats are black, with white trim and white laces. There is no size indicated. The cleats have a Spot Bilt logo scripted on each side panel. A Letter of Authenticity is included from Hunt Auctions which states that the cleats exhibit little, if any, use and that the cleats are identical to several documented cleats. Also included is a photo from Hunt Auctions showing Munson wearing identical game worn cleats. Also included is a letter of Provenance from Diane Munson, Thurman Munson's wife.</p>
