Circa 1971 Joe Owens New Orleans Saints Game Worn Jersey
Joe Owens was a defensive end in the NFL who played seven seasons: San Diego Charges (1970); New Orleans Saints (1971-75); Houston Oilers (1976). Owens played his college football at Alcorn State. After a season with San Diego, he played six seasons for New Orleans and finished his career briefly playing for Houston in 1976. Owens' forte was sacking quarterbacks. He had ten sacks in his NFL rookie season in 1970. Then, with New Orleans, he had 7.5 sacks in '71, 8.0 sacks in each year from '72-74, and 6.5 sacks in '75. In his NFL career, Owens played in 87 games, starting 52. He had 49 sacks, with an interception, four fumble recoveries, and two safeties. The polyester black jersey is all original with "72," in gold with white trim, sewn on front, back, and shoulders. Nice use with big team repair on the back. A Wilson tag is on the front tail. The size that was written on the Wilson tag has washed out, but the jersey measures to be a size 52. There is a tiny tear in the numeral "2" on the back and a small stain on the numeral "2" on front. The jersey has a few other small stains and a few loose threads. Overall, the jersey shows use and is in very good condition.
