Circa 1971 Steve Renko Montreal Expos Game Worn Jersey
<p>Montreal Expos home jersey worn by pitcher Steve Renko in 1971. The white flannel jersey features the Expos logo and team name on the left breast, and the the number 18 on the right breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in blue tackle twill. A laundry tag is located on the left front tail. Although no year tag is listed, it can be conclusively dated to 1971 based upon a comparison to the tagging on Expos jerseys dating from 1969, 1970, and 1972. (The team switched to knit jerseys in 1973.) There is no flag tag (listing the set number and year) adjacent to the laundry tag on the tail as we have seen on other 1971 Expos jerseys, but there is no evidence of one having been removed and we believe the jersey is original as issued. Heavy wear is displayed throughout, including several team repairs, a tiny stain on the front, and areas of thinning fabric on the reverse. Pitcher Steve Renko was the only Expos player to wear number 18 from 1969 (the team's first year) to 1976. Renko started a career-high 37 games with the Expos in 1971 and finished the season with a 15-13 record and a 3.75 ERA. This is a scarce Expos four-year-only style flannel jersey dating from the club's third season in franchise history.</p>
