Circa 1973 Willie Mays Signed Painting from Tommy McDonald
After spending his first 21 big-league seasons with the Giants, Hall of Fame outfielder Willie Mays returned to New York in the middle of the 1972 season, joining the Mets, retiring after the team's unlikely World Series run the following season. Here's a somewhat rare painting of arguably the greatest living ballplayer in a Mets uniform and cap. It comes from the studio of artist Tommy McDonald and measures 23" x 27" in its original frame. There is a plaque below the piece which reads: "WILLIE MAYS" and there is some water damage to the canvas inside the frame and outside the picture. Beautiful 1980s Willie Mays signature on the painting in blue Sharpie.
