Circa 1974 George Brett Signed Kansas City Royals Professional Model Jersey

Circa 1974 George Brett Signed Kansas City Royals Professional Model Jersey

The Royals were the darlings of baseball in 2014, coming within two runs of winning the World Series. Forty years earlier, before the the fledgling team had any real success, a rookie third baseman named George Brett wore this all-original home jersey from the 1973-75 era with "25" on the back. It shows heavy use and most of the stitching is missing from the applied numbers and letters but they are original and still held on by the backing. It is believed that Brett wore this jersey during his first year or two in the Major Leagues. When he was called up in 1973, he wore number 25 and also wore it the following season before switching to number 5 in 1975. The Wilson tag and year tag are no longer with the jersey, which shows heavy use. In 1972, K.C. was still wearing flannels before switching to knits like this one. The jersey does measure out to be around a size 46, which would seem large for Brett but the players who wore 25 after 1974 were smaller than he was. This jersey was obtained from a Baltimore/Washington area sports personality who had the Hall of Famer sign it. Brett added 1974 to his signature and confirmed that he wore the number and style when he came up.
