Circa 1985 Don Mattingly New York Yankees Signed Game Used Cleats (PSA)

Circa 1985 Don Mattingly New York Yankees Signed Game Used Cleats (PSA)

Don Mattingly was a hot hitter from 1984-88, and he was headed for a Hall of Fame career until a chronic bad back diminished his ability and led to his retirement. Offered is a set of game used Mattingly triple-signed cleats, circa 1985. Mattingly played his entire 14-year Major League career with the New York Yankees, and from 1984-88 Don batted over .300 each year, with an American League leading .343 average in 1984, and he hit .352 in 1986. Mattingly hit 137 home runs in the above-mentioned five years. In the last six years of his career, he hit a total of only 54 homers and batted over .300 only once. In other words, for the first half of his Major League career, Mattingly was straight on the path to Cooperstown. He finished his career with a .307 average and 222 homers. "I'm glad I don't have to face that guy every day," said former New York Mets and New York Yankees pitcher Dwight Gooden. "I don't know if it's in his stance, his eyes or what, but you can tell he means business." Mattingly also meant business in the field, as he was a 9-time Gold Glove winner at first base, still an American League record. Mattingly is currently the manager of the Miami Marlins. The Converse black cleats have white trim. The size 10 cleats have Mattingly's signature, in blue-green marker, near the white Converse logo, and both cleats are signed on the outside heel, in silver marker. Each of the three signatures is neatly written. The blue-green signature has a slight smudge. The cleats show great use. There are smudges, dirt marks, black shoe polish marks, sweat stains, and some slight rust on the individual metal cleats. Mattingly's number "23" has been written in marker by an unknown hand on the inside of each shoe. The availability of Mattingly's size 10 cleats has really dried up, and his cleats are now very hard to find. The circa 1985 cleats are from Mattingly's peak, and their scarcity and his great seasons with the Yankees make the cleats a valued collectible. Comes with PSA LOA for autograph.
