Circa 1985 Eric Davis Cincinnati Reds Signed Game Worn Rookie Era Jersey
Eric Davis was a center fielder with great speed and power, and he was the first major league player to steal 30 bases and hit 50 home runs in the same season, as he did in 1987. He was a 2-time All-Star, a 2-time Silver Slugger, and a 3-time Gold Glove. He stole 349 bases and hit 282 home runs in his 17-year career - nine seasons with the Reds and the remainder of his career with five other teams. He was nicknamed "Eric the Red." He was diagnosed with colon cancer when playing for the Baltimore Orioles in 1987 and recovered to play more major league baseball that season, even while undergoing treatment. In his next season, Davis had a great year, batting .327 with 28 home runs and a 30 consecutive game hitting streak. Number "44" is on the right chest and the Reds' logo is on the left chest. Across the back is "DAVIS" in red block letters and under the name is "44." There is a Goodman size "44" tag on the lower outside front tail. The jersey shows nice use. There is a small stain on the back of the left sleeve, there are some loose threads around the number on the back, and the ends of the sleeves are discolored, possibly from sweat. The attractive jersey represents a highly skilled player who successfully battled cancer to make an amazing comeback.
