Circa 1985 Pete Rose Signed, Game-Worn Jersey
He may still be banned from baseball, but Pete Rose remains at the top of the charts when it comes to base hits with 4,256 - an accomplishment no one in the foreseeable future is likely to match or surpass. Whether or not he ever makes it to the storied halls of Cooperstown, this home Reds jersey when he played for his hometown Cincinnati team is a beaut. Featuring his number 14 on both the front and back, it is all original and shows nice use. The familiar Reds logo also adorns the front and "ROSE" is sewn directly onto the back. There is a Goodman size 43 tag on the front tail and it is signed in 8/10 blue Sharpie on the front. The man nicknamed "Charlie Hustle" - who used to sprint to first base on walks - was one of the baseball's true characters and played the game with a menacing competitiveness that was uncommon to his generation. Rose's playing career extended between 1963 and 1986, though he managed until 1989, when evidence emerged linking the 17-time All-Star to gambling, officially ending his association with the game. Amid the controversy, Rose agreed to permanent ineligibility. After 15 years of denying the allegations, Rose finally admitted to the gambling charges in 2004, though he remains steadfast in his claims that he never bet on his own team. The debate rages on today whether the three-time World Series champ should ever be enshrined. Regardless of the outcome, no one questions Rose's outstanding on-field accomplishments, and this jersey is a terrific testament to that talent.
