Circa 2015 Jose Fernandez Miami Marlins Warm Up Jacket

Circa 2015 Jose Fernandez Miami Marlins Warm Up Jacket

Jose Fernandez was nicknamed "Nino" to his teammates and fans because of the youthful enthusiasm with which he played baseball. Presented is a circa 2015 Jose Fernandez Miami Marlins polyester/nylon warm-up jacket. A Cuban American right-hander, Fernandez unsuccessfully tried to escape from Cuba three times before he finally escaped on his fourth try. A first-round draft choice by Miami in 2011, Fernandez made it to the Major Leagues with the Marlins in 2013 and he went 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA and he was named the National league Rookie of the Year. During the 2014 season, Fernandez underwent Tommy John surgery. He returned in 2015 and went 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA. In his final season, 2016, Fernandez made his second All-Star team and went 16-8, with a 2.80 ERA. In his final start, on September 20th, he pitched eight shut-out innings in a 1-0 Miami win, striking out 12, walking nine and only allowing three hits. Tragically, he died in the pre-dawn hours of September 25th when the boat he was piloting struck a reef, killing all aboard. For his brief Major League career, Fernandez was 38-17, with a 2.58 ERA. The warm-up jacket has a Majestic manufacturer's tag in the collar. On the tag is a "MLB Authentic" logo. The tag indicates the size as large. Handwritten in an unknown hand on the tag, using a marker with black ink, is "16," for the uniform number of Fernandez. On the lower inside of the jacket is a tag giving washing instructions and showing the jacket to be 100% polyester on the exterior and 100% nylon in the lining. This tag also shows Fernandez' number, written in black marker in a n unknown hand. On the left chest is the multi-colored Miami Marlins' logo. The jacket has a zippered front. The right sleeve has a Majestic patch, and at the top of the back is an MLB logo. The jacket shows slight wear, and it is in excellent condition. Sadly, the jacket represents Jose Fernandez, his life cut short by tragedy.
